The BNL Social and Cultural Club endeavors to build closer community ties between Brookhaven National Laboratory and its neighbors. It promotes, supports and encourages activities for social interaction between BNL employees and the surrounding community through ethnic food parties, outdoor picnics and barbecues, field trips, karaoke sessions, and other social and cultural activities.

The Club holds weekly Open-To-The-Public dance socials (TGIFs @ Brookhaven) at the North Ballroom, Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory every Friday evening from 6:00 to 11:30 pm (dance lessons:beginners, 6:00 - 7 pm; and beg/int, 7:30 to 8:30 pm, different dance and different instructors each week). Social dancing follows after the lessons up to 11:30 pm.

Scholarships and Charity Fund
Please donate to our Scholarships & Charity Fund by clicking on the "Donate" button below. Your donation will be used for scholarships, "Feed-the-Kids" program, books and school supplies, and other charitable endeavors in Cebu, Philippines. Any amount will be greatly appreciated; it will mean a lot to some poor, young people back in the village where I was born and raised.

Furthermore, as of now, the hapless victims of super-typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) need urgent help. Please click on the "Donate" button above if you want to contribute towards the typhoon victims charity fund. You may also bring some canned food and other non-perishable goods to our weekly TGIFs.

Thank you!

    Project: "Bonding-with-the-Kids" Program

The "Bonding-with-the-Kids" program at the Cantaoan Public School in Cebu, Philippines was held on Tuesday, Jan 18, 2011. We distributed about 1100 lunch packs to the school children, each pack containing "chicken, rice, & juice".

My friends, Romy and Nadia Jurani, of the Jurani-Catarata Foundation in Las Vegas, Nevada and the Miss Cebu 2010, Reena Elena Malinao, also provided strong support to this endeavor.

The project was a great success! Thanks to all the donors and volunteers who made the children of my village so happy!

    • We did not do the 2012 feeding program; instead, we sent the funds to the victims of the killer typhoon Sendong in the Philippines.

    • Then last year, super-storm Sandy came close to home! We concentrated our efforts in collecting non-perishable goods for distribution to the victims of Sandy here in Long Island.

    • Sadly, not too long ago, close to the heels of a devastating 7.2 earthquake, another fierce super-storm, Yolanda (Haiyan), struck the Philippines leaving behind untold losses, casualties, and miseries! Once more, we will try to help in our own little way!
